The Ministry of Health is working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to implement solutions to prevent AMR in the treatment of diseases.
According to a survey by the health sector, most antibiotics are sold without a doctor's prescription. This situation accounts for up to 91% in rural areas and 88% in urban areas. Due to drug abuse, AMR is becoming increasingly severe as more bacteria become resistant to more antibiotics.
In agriculture and food, AMR has a direct impact on the economy, food system, and livelihoods. In addition to its negative impact on animals, causing animal diseases, it can also affect food production, national food security, and people's livelihoods.
In December 2023, the Prime Minister approved the National Strategy for AMR Prevention in Vietnam for the period from now to 2030, with a vision to 2045. The strategy reaffirms Vietnam's determination in the fight against AMR, to use antibiotics responsibly and reasonably in humans and animals.
