On June 23, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong and Dr. Jonas Egebart - Director of the Danish Health Authority held an official meeting, marking the launch of Phase 3 of the Vietnam-Denmark healthcare partnership, reaffirming their joint commitment to promoting healthy lives and well-being for all people.
This cooperative relationship prioritizes strengthening primary healthcare and improving management of non-communicable diseases as Vietnam implements important administrative and healthcare reforms.

In Phase 3, the Danish Health Authority will support Vietnam in transforming its healthcare system amid changing disease patterns, with continued focus on strengthening primary healthcare to address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
Phase 3 of the Strategic Healthcare Cooperation Program between Vietnam and Denmark begins at a crucial time as Vietnam is implementing extensive restructuring across many levels of state administration, including the healthcare sector. Denmark's 2007 administrative restructuring comprehensively transformed the political-administrative system in healthcare by reducing the number of regional and local administrative units while transferring responsibility for prevention and rehabilitation from regional to local authorities.
Building on this foundation, Denmark recently initiated a new reform process aimed at strengthening general practice scope, local preventive healthcare, and integration of health services.
The Director General of the Danish Health Authority stated: "Vietnam is undergoing a transformation of its public administration apparatus including the healthcare sector, an important and ambitious process. Denmark followed this path many years ago and is ready to share with Vietnam the experience and policy insights we gained from past and ongoing restructuring processes. Strengthening primary healthcare and investing in preventive healthcare is not only economically sensible but also helps build healthier and more resilient communities."

Vietnam is reshaping its primary healthcare system to better serve its people as it faces rapidly aging populations, changing disease burdens, and increasing public expectations driven by economic growth.
Phase 3 of the Strategic Healthcare Cooperation Program builds upon consolidated results and joint efforts from previous phases that began in 2016 when the healthcare partnership between the two countries was established. Phase 3 focuses on strengthening policy frameworks, supporting integrated care models, and enhancing local capacity in prevention, detection, and management of non-communicable diseases.
Danish Ambassador Nicolai Prytz added that Denmark is proud to be a reliable partner for Vietnam. In this new phase of cooperation, Denmark focuses on strengthening collaboration and sharing Danish expertise in governance reform, health system strengthening, life sciences, and healthcare. This phase comes at a critical reform juncture and can support Vietnam in shaping and implementing important policy initiatives in disease prevention and primary healthcare - key pillars of long-term healthcare reform aligned with Vietnam's major and ambitious development goals.
