On November 8, 2025, the Vietnam Society for Organ Transplantation, in collaboration with Military Hospital 175, held the 10th Annual Scientific Conference of the Vietnam Society for Organ Transplantation at Military Hospital 175. Dr. Nguyễn Tri Thức, Deputy Minister of Health, attended and delivered the opening speech.

The event brought together nearly 500 delegates, including hundreds of presenters, experts, doctors, and leading scientists.
The event brought together nearly 500 delegates, including hundreds of presenters, experts, doctors, and leading scientists from both Vietnam and abroad. Dr. Nguyễn Tri Thức, Deputy Minister of Health, commended the rapid advancements in Vietnam's organ transplantation field, particularly in surgical techniques, post-transplant treatment, and intensive care, which he described as "very good."
Deputy Minister Thức stated that the Ministry of Health is implementing comprehensive strategies to promote the development of organ transplantation. The organ transplantation process consists of four fundamental steps:
- Public communication: Aimed at raising community awareness and helping people understand the profound humanitarian significance of organ donation and transplantation
- Coordination: A critical step that determines the efficiency and transparency of the entire process
- Transplantation techniques: An area where Vietnam has made significant progress, now approaching the standards of advanced countries
- Post-operative care and treatment: Currently rated as good to excellent and is continuously updated
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Major General Dr. Trần Quốc Việt, Director of Military Hospital 175, emphasized that organ transplantation is not only a high-level medical technique but also a humanitarian mission of military medical professionals—where each transplant represents a journey of restoring life.
Outstanding Achievements of Military Hospital 175
In less than two years since its launch, Military Hospital 175 has successfully performed over 89 kidney transplants and 11 liver transplants. Notably, in April 2025, the hospital carried out a multi-organ retrieval and transplant from a brain-dead donor, demonstrating its mastery of the complete process—from brain death diagnosis to organ retrieval and transplantation.
These achievements have affirmed Military Hospital 175's position as a key organ transplant center in southern Vietnam, contributing to the realization of its vision to become a "comprehensive, specialized, modern military medical complex of regional and international standards."
Vietnam Emerges as Regional Leader in Organ Transplantation
According to Prof. Dr. Phạm Gia Khánh, President of the Vietnam Society for Organ Transplantation, Vietnam has not only achieved full autonomy in organ retrieval and transplantation techniques but has also successfully performed complex transplant procedures. These include the use of advanced surgical methods, new medications, and cutting-edge technologies, placing Vietnam on par with countries that have highly developed medical systems.
Currently, 31 hospitals across the country are performing organ transplants, with many conducting them routinely. Vietnam is emerging as a regional leader in organ transplantation.
Impressive Statistics on Organ Transplantation in Vietnam
Vietnam has achieved an average of 1,000 organ and tissue transplants annually over the past three years. The success rate, quality of life, and post-transplant survival time of patients are comparable to those in developed countries.
The number of registered organ donors continues to rise, with 143,477 individuals currently registered nationwide. There have been 225 cases of brain-dead organ donation, reflecting growing public awareness and participation.
Special Highlights of the 10th Conference
This year's conference marks the 10th edition of Vietnam's most prestigious annual scientific event in the field of organ transplantation. For the first time in the conference's history, live demonstration surgeries—a kidney transplant and a liver transplant—were performed directly in the operating rooms of Military Hospital 175.
This milestone highlights Vietnam's growing expertise in advanced surgical techniques, international collaboration, and its rising professional standards in the region.
Comprehensive and Specialized Conference Program
The conference program includes a plenary session featuring key reports on the current state of organ transplantation in Vietnam, strategic development plans for the next 30 years, and international presentations on organ allocation, robotic-assisted kidney transplantation, optimizing marginal donors, and expanding organ sources in countries such as Thailand, Australia, and South Korea.
Parallel sessions over two days will focus on specialized topics including liver, kidney, heart, lung, stem cell, and corneal transplantation, as well as anesthesia and resuscitation, organ donation coordination, nursing care, and the application of artificial intelligence in organ donation coordination and transplant management.
The 10th Annual Scientific Conference of the Vietnam Society for Organ Transplantation 2025 serves not only as an opportunity for domestic and international experts to share experiences, but also affirms Vietnam's position in the regional and international organ transplantation field.
